Spectroscopic studies on delayed-neutron emission from fission products

Description

A brief survey of spectroscopic investigations of delayed neutrons of fission products decay is given. The relationship of neutron and gamma radiations, the neutron spectrum, and the population of excited states of a final nucleus were investigated. The neutron decay spectra of 85As, 87Br, 135Sb, 137I were measured using a 3He spectrometer with a resolution of 12 keV for thermal and 19 keV for 1.0 MeV neutrons. The position of the ranges of gamma radiation and the binding energy of neutrons in a nucleus is shown. The complex structure of the neutron spectra is noted. The experimental fluctuations in neutron intensity are compared with the calculation from the statistical model. Satisfactory agreement is observed 135Sb theory diverges from calculation: experimental fluctuations at the neutron energy above 100 keV increase with the energy. It is concluded that neutron radiating states possess an intermediate structure
