Uranium ore deposite in the Republic of Korea

  • 1. Dong-A Univ., Busan (Republic of Korea)

Description

Various indication of uranium mineralization surveryed up to now tells us that the country is fertile for uranium mineralization. The uranium ore deposits in the Republic of Korea can be grouped into five main genetic types. Those are; 1)Precambrian oligomictic conglomerate type deposits 2)Hydrothermal vein deposits in Precambrian metamorphic rocks 3) Coaliferous blackshale type deposits 4) sandstone type deposits 5) Intraintrusive type deposits . The valueable places for futher exploration may be a vast area of the Kyongsang basin especillay where lower fluvial sedimentary rocks are deposited. The above area should be throughly flown, counted along the new roads and of the most importantly line counted on the ground with hand held scintillometer spacing no more than 500m apart. Because the sandstone type uranium deposit, generally, is small in a unit ore lens, cursory exploration may overlook such deposits.(Author)
