Hardening of maraging steels by cold deformation and heat treatment

Description

Effect of alloying and regimes of quenching, cold plastic deformation and ageing on mechanical properties of thin wire of maraging steels, containing 13-18% Ni, 5-13% Co, 5-8% Mo, 0.9-2% Ti, has been studied. High ductility of carbon-free martensite of the steels after quenching permits to realize cold plastic deformation with high total reduction in area (epsilon >= 99%), as a result of which ultimate strength of the steels investigated increases by 1000-1100 MPa. After combined treatment, comprising quenching, cold plastic deformation and ageing, the strength of maraging steels with 10-18% total contents of cobalt and molybdenum increases up to 3200-3800 MPa and sufficient ductility is presented
