Physical adsorption: rare-gas atoms on solid surfaces. Final report, June 1, 1980-September 30, 1982
Description
The areas of major progress are a quantitative understanding of band structure effects for He on graphite, the substrate modification of the He-He interaction on graphite, the nature of a universal physisorption potential, and the asymptotic coefficient C3 of the van der Waals interaction between an atom and a surface. These calculations have been largely confirmed by very precise experiments, indicating the growing sophistication of this field. Their conclusions can be generalized and extended to a variety of other systems and problems
