Description
In summary, radiation reactions in structures of the oral cavity, neck, and esophagus can be generalized and grouped according to tissue types. Cell turnover rates predict whether the reactions will appear early or late, and care of early reactions can lessen later complications. Chemical modification of these reactions is under study, but such work has yet to have great clinical significance. The time-honored parameters which determine radiobiological changes are the total radiation dose, number of of radiation fractions, overall time of dose delivery, and the volume of tissue irradiated
