Thermal analysis of microwave processing of ceramics

  • 1. Univ. of Florida, Gainesville, FL (United States)

Description

Numerical techniques have been applied to model the time-dependent and steady-state temperature distribution generated during microwave absorption in ceramics. The method is based upon an accurate implicit finite-difference technique, which can take into account the non-linear temperature-dependent thermal and dielectric properties of the absorbing medium. Calculations have been conducted for relatively strongly absorbing materials like SiC. The effect of microwave power on the thermal characteristics of the ceramic have been analyzed. 4 refs., 3 figs., 1 tab
