Nuclear magnetic resonance and chemical studies of uranium(V) alkoxides

  • 1. Washington State Univ., Pullman

Description

The following uranium (V) alkoxides have been synthesized: uranium pentamethoxide U(OCH3)5, the pentaethoxide U(OCH2H3)5, the pentaphenoxide U(OC6H5)5; U[tetra (nonafluoro-2 methyl-2-propoxide](ethoxide)(ethanol), U[tetra(hexafluoro-2-propoxide)] (ethoxide)(ethanol); U[(penta(pentafluorophenoxide)](ethanol). The compounds have been characterized by high-resolution 13C, 19F, and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Well-resolved, temperature dependent 13C spectra were obtained for U(OCH2H3)5 and U(OC6H5)5, indicative of rapid ligand exchange at ambient temperature and slower exchange and/or molecular association at lower temperatures. Reactions of U(OCh2CH3)5 with SO2, pyridine, acetonitrile, oxygen, nitric oxide, 18-crown-6 and hydrofluoric acids are discussed. 3 figures, 2 tables
