40Ar-39Ar ages of lava flows from Giravalighat and Buldana: evidence against a plume-head genesis of the Deccan flood basalts?

Description
The concordant plateau and isochron ages for all the samples, the large amounts (>73%) of total 39Ar for the plateau steps, the atmospheric values of the trapped 40Ar/36Ar component, and the low MSWD values for the isochrons, imply that these ages are the true crystallisation ages. The weighted mean inverse isochron ages for the Giravalighat flow (66.0 ± 0.9 Ma) and Buldana flow (68.4 ± 0.8 Ma) have been plotted against the Cande and Kent Geomagnetic Polarity Time Scale (GPTS) to infer the magnetic chrons during which these flows were erupted. Also shown in the figure are two levels of reversals and one normal for the entire western ghat section
