The horizons of two Schwarzschild black holes

Creators

  • 1. University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa). Dept. of Applied Mathematics

Description

The problem investigated is that of two Schwarzschild black holes of masses m1 and m2 << m1, which are initially at rest on a time-symmetric spacelike hypersurface. An asymptotic formula as m2 → 0 is found for the maximum separation between m1 and m2 such that a connected component of the apparent horizon encloses both m1 and m2. The problem is solved numerically. (author)
