Description
Accidents in which large amounts of reactivity are inserted over short time periods have been of concern in light water reactors throughout the history of this technology. The author reports on the use of a coupled three dimensional thermal-hydraulic and neutronics code for performing a best estimate analysis of this type of transient. The TRAC PF1 best estimate thermal hydraulic code is used to perform the thermal-hydraulic analysis. To it, a three dimensional kinetics code was added to provide a full three dimensional thermal-hydraulic kinetic analysis. Results of a rod ejection and a main steam line break accident are reported
