Tracer methods for the detection of blood clots
Description
Several approaches to the development of gamma-labeled radiopharmaceuticals for clot detection appear feasible. During thrombogenesis, iodinated fibrinogen is useful. At a later stage, clots have been shown to incorporate labeled leukocytes or pick up radiolabeled albumin particles from blood flowing past the clot. During thrombolysis, radiolabeled activators of the fibrinolytic system may be incorporated into the clots. Of this class of agent, tagged streptokinase is the most developed as a radiopharmaceutical. Clinical trials may be instituted soon
