Magnetic spectrometer based on the multiwire proportional chambers

Description

Characteristics of a magnetic spectrometer comprising three multiwire proportional chambers with cathode data read-out are studied. The spectrometer includes three magnets placed close to one another. Two chambers were placed in front of the magnet for determination of the angle and coordinate of particle input in the magnetic field, the third chamber placed behind the magnet was used for determination of particle deflection angle in the magnetic spectrometer. Magnetic field in each cross section of working aperture of the spectrometer turned to be uniform within 0.2% range of measurement accuracy. Pulse resolution of the spectrometer constituted <= 1% for particles with 1-5 GeV/s pulse. Utilization of the described spectrometer operating on-line with a computer for pulsed particle beam analysis permitted to essentially improve pulse resolution of the accelerator channel
