Description

We review some recent results in two dimensional Rational Conformal Field Theory. We discuss these theories as generalization of group theory. The relation to a three dimensional topological theory is explained and the particular example of the Chern-Simons-Witten theory is analyzed in detail. This study leads to a natural conjecture regarding the classification of all RCFT's. (author). 64 refs, 4 figs
