Development of the catalog for ordinary sorption agents for low activity sewage purification

Sorption and ion exchange with natural materials and synthetic resins are widely used in purification of sewage of low and medium level of activity. Properties of different sorbents are compared by means of the unified method for sorptive properties determination. The data obtained were compiled as a catalog of sorbents. This unified method was applied to determine properties of sorbents used for purification of low and medium activity sewage. The unified method includs determination of common and special properties of sorbents. Common properties are: grain size, humidity, mechanical strength, and chemical stability. These properties are presented as standards of the CMEA member-countries for sorbents and ion exchange materials. Determination of special properties is relevant to estimation of efficiency of sorbents in radioactive sewage purification and removal of substances dissolved in water. Substantial affect on the sorbents effeciency is made by the chemical composition of the wates processed. As a sample for determination of sorbent properties three solutions were selected. These sample solutions contain non active salts with additions of cesium-134, cesium-137, strontium-89, strontium-90, sulfur-35 in the form of sulfates and chlorine-36 in the form of chlorides. Methods for determination other sorbents'properties as ion exchange rate, distribution factor, exchange factor and regeneration ability in unified conditions. Catalog of sorbents prodused in member-countries of CMEA is given. (I.T.)
