Thermal decomposition of uranyl formates
Description
The decomposition of UO2(HCOO)2xH2O and UO2(OH)(HCOO)xH2O was studied by isothermic gravimetry, derivatography and differential scanning calorimetry techniques with the use of infrared spectroscopy, X-ray and mass-spectrometry identification of products. The enthalpies of dehydration of UO2(HCOO)2xH2O and of decomposition of UO2(HCOO)2 to U3O8 at t > 260 deg C in inert atmosphere are equal to 14.7+-0.7 and 22+-2 kcal/mole, and the activation energies, respectively, amount 34+-2 and 38+-3 kcal/mole. The mechanism of the process is discussed, and the results are compared with available data
