New approach to elastic e-d scattering calculations

Description

A technique for calculating the electromagnetic form factors of the deuteron is developed, which employs the standard rules for Feynman graphs. First, a model of the vertex for d yields n+p with both of the nucleons off their mass shells is constructed, and then the scattering amplitude is calculated in the one-photon exchange approximation. Finally, the deuteron form factors are calculated for the S-state part of the deuteron wavefunction. They are found to agree, in the nonrelativistic limit, with accepted nonrelativistic results
