Observation of hypernuclear γ rays in 7/sub Λ/Li and 9/sub Λ/Be

Description
Gamma rays were observed in the decays of the p-shell Λ hypernuclei7/sub Λ/Li and 9/sub Λ/Be, formed in excited states with 823 MeV/c kaons through the reaction: /sup A/X(K-,π-)/sup A//sub Λ/X. The energies of the γ rays observed are compared with those predicted from the level spacing in an existing shell model theory which takes into account the effect of the Λ on the nuclear core states through the spin-orbit and the spin-spin parts of the strong Λ-nucleus interaction. Cross sections for the production of these Λ hypernuclei are estimated from the data
