Modular invariance of SU(1,1) strings

Description
We investigate the question of modular invariance for a string moving on an SU(1,1) group manifold. By including new sectors corresponding to windings around the compact time-direction, modular invariance is achieved for the discrete representations which are free of physical negative norm states. The critical dimension is less than 26. (orig.)
