'Shuntography' - a radionuclide scanning method for evaluation of cerebrospinal fluid shunt patency
Description
A simple and reliable radionuclide scanning technique is described for the evaluation of cerebrospinal fluid shunt patency and in particular the localization of shunt dysfunction in hydrocephalic patients. sup(99m)Tc-DTPA is injected into the shunt reservoir and images of the filling of the ventricles followed by the passage of the radionuclide into the peritoneal cavity are obtained with a gamma camera. The sensitivity of this test is 96%. (U.K.)
