A new class of ferromagnetic materials: RFe10V2

  • 1. Philips Gloeilampenfabriek N.V., Eindhoven (Netherlands). Research Labs.

Description

Ternary compounds of the composition RFe10V2 are formed when combining rare earth elements (R = Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Lu and Y) with Fe and V. This structure type is not found to occur in any of the three binary systems R - Fe, R - V or V - Fe. A structure determination is given for GdFe10V2. The RFe10V2 compounds are ferromagnetic materials with relatively high Curie temperatures and some of them may be considered as new starting materials for permanent magnet applications. 9 refs.; 2 figs.; 2 tabs
