CT angiography in neuroradiology - clinical applications

Description

Increasing availability of spiral CT as a diagnostic tool has been accompanied by a growing interest in CT angiography, also in the field of neuroradiology. CT angiography currently ranks between conventional intraarterial angiography and MR angiography in terms of invasive performance and complexity. Applications in neuroradiology encompass detection of aneurysms in the circle Willisii, diagnostic evaluation of basilar thromboses and cerebral vein thromboses, imaging of stenoses or occlusions of the A. cerebri media in stroke patients, and imaging of intracranial vascular malformations. Abstract (German)

Seit der breiten Verfuegbarkeit der Spiral-CT gewann die CT-Angiographie (CTA) zunehmendes Interesse, auch in der Neuroradiologie. In Bezug auf Invasivitaet und Aufwand steht die CTA derzeit zwischen der herkoemmlichen intraarteriellen Angiographie und der Kernspinangiographie (MRA). Anwendungen in der Neuroradiologie umfassen den Nachweis von Aneurysmata im Circulus arteriosus Willisii, die Abklaerung der Carotiden in Hinblick auf Stenosen oder Dissektionen, die Diagnostik von Basilaristhrombosen und Sinusvenenthrombosen, den Nachweis von Stenosen oder Verschluessen der A. cerebri media bei Schlaganfallpatienten sowie die Darstellung von intrakraniellen Gefaessmalformationen.
