W-boson mass determination from the threshold behavior of σtot(e+e-→W+W-)
Description
The total cross-section of e+e-→W+W- has been studied in relation to the W-boson mass determination in the framework of the standard SU(2) x U(1) electroweak theory. We use the cross-section σtot(e+e-→W+W-) including the leading logarithmic and heavy quark corrections, and also taking account of the finite W width effects in the final state. Taking the top quark mass and even α and MZ as free parameters, we show that the behavior of σtot(e+e-→W+W-) as a function of MW in the threshold region is quite universal as expected from tree level analyses, and therefore adequate for the kinematical W-mass determination.
