A primary discussion on the anomalous phenomenon of quartz thermoluminescence in uranium bearing veins

  • 1. Dept. of Earth Sciences Nanjing Univ. (China)

Description

This paper reports the anomalous phenomenon that quartz thermoluminescence intensity is reduced with increasing contents of radioactive elements in uranium bearing veins. The reduction mechanism of thermoluminescence intensity is studied in terms of two sorts of effects induced by the action of high-energy radiation on objects. The thermoluminescence patterns of quartz revealed clearly the thermal history during the formation of the uranium veins. From the contents of uranium, thorium and potassium, radiogenic heat producing ratios were calculated for rocks and ores of the uranium vein, and the relations between quartz thermoluminescence intensity and radiogenic heating rate are discussed
