A search for QSOs in the fields of nearby galaxies

Description

Further results are presented from a continuing search for QSOs and related objects situated close to nearby galaxies for the purpose of finding background probes of the intervening interstellar media. To locate the probes we scan UKST objective prism plates for likely candidates and then take low-resolution slit spectra at SAAO for confirmation purposes. Here new data are presented for 12 targets in four galaxy fields: nine are newly discovered QSOs with B magnitudes in the range 16.1-18.6, the remaining three are galaxies with Seyfert or emission-line spectra.
