Description
Unit-2 of Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS-2) completed 8.5 Effective Full Power Years (EFPY) of operation. As a prelude to En-masse Coolant Channel Replacement (EMCCR) job, MAPS-2 was shutdown on 09-01-2002. EMCCR job is a high man-rem consuming job to be done inside F/M vaults. En- masse boiler cutting and installation job planned is also high dose consuming job to be done in Boiler room. As part of ALARA to achieve reduction in dose rate due to deposited activity (mainly 60Co) in the oxide layer on the internal surface of Carbon steel piping and Monel tubes, decontamination of PHT system was carried out on January 16-17, 2002. The radiation profiles studied to see the effectiveness of the DCD and the health and safety aspects in connection with this campaign are discussed in this paper. (author)
