Studies on the atmospheric 3H concentration, transpiration rate and 3H in transpired water in some plant species around Kakrapar Gujarat site

Description
Kakrapar Gujarat site have two PHWRs (each 220 MWe) have been operating since 1994 and two more units are under construction (700 MWe PHWRs). Once 3H is released through stack it exchanges with hydrogen of atmospheric water to form tritiated water (HTO) which is transferred from atmosphere to the surface by precipitation and vapor exchange. The transpiration takes place through stomata opening in the leaf and the rate depends upon several conditions such as type of plant, age of the plant, temperature, humidity, etc. It is estimated that less than 5% of the water absorbed is used in metabolic reactions by an average plant and the remaining 95% water is released in the atmosphere as water vapors. This paper presents the site-specific transpiration rate of some commonly available plants (Mango, Guava, and Gulmohar) at onsite locations of Kakrapar Gujarat site
