Quadrupole gamma-quanta absorption at the 4He photodisintegration into two deuterons

Description

A multipole expansion is carried out for the 4He(γ, d)2H reaction. An analysis of angular distributions makes it possible under certain assumptions to separate the partial cross section responsible for the E2-transition with l=2, S=0 (l is the orbital moment, S is the total spin). The cross section turned out to be decisive at photon energy of 30 MeV. The energy dependence of the partial cross section is approximated by the Breit-Wigner resonance formula. It has been concluded that there should exist the 2+(T=0) level in a 4He nucleus. The values of the resonance energy are determined Esub(R) = 32+-0.7 MeV. The total cross sections are compared with the experimental results and theoretical calculations
