A way to reduce plasma spin-up in fiel-revesed configurations

Description
Supposing that the plasma spin-up experimentally observed in field-reversed configurations is due to particle losses with preferentially oriented canonical angular momentum, it is shown that the introduction of magnetic divertors on the separatrix should strongly reduce the torque on the confined plasma. Plasma diffusion should be concentrated at the divertors and so particles could leave the closed magnetic field line region without preferentially oriented canonical angular momentum. This implies that the plasma spin-up should be lower than in the absence of divertors. (author)

(M.C.K.)Additional details
