Establishment of Material Testing System for Small Specimen in Hot Cell

Irradiated Materials Examination Facility(IMEF) in KAERI have set up the material testing system for small specimen in hot cell. The material testing system for small specimen consists of load unit, hydraulic power unit, controller and test environment control apparatuses. Because this testing system was set up for the purpose of a small specimen testing in hot cell, the specifications of the load unit, the hydraulic pump and the test environment control apparatuses were determined taking into account the specimen size, the load capacity, the displacement capacity and the test conditions. The basic design concept of testing system had been partially changed for the utilization in hot cell. Dimensions and position of the all parts related to the operation of testing system had been changed for a simple and easy handling of a small specimen by using manipulator in hot cell. In the viewpoint of a maintenance of the testing system, the advanced installation methods were used so that the replacement parts are easily accessed and the amounts of radiowaste such as control lines, hydraulic lines and the other service lines, is reduced.
