Production and study of molybdenum alloy monocrystals
Description
The object of the present research is centered on molybdenum-base zirconium and carbon alloys and molybdenum-base niobium, zirconium and carbon alloys. The additions of alloying components forming a solid solution with the base, at concentrations of a few percent essentially do not affect the perfection of single crystal alloy structure. Meanwhile the increase in concentration of up to decimal fractions of percent of an element forming a eutectic with molybdenum (carbon) produces a crucial effect on ingot structure. Such an alloying element effect may be associated with the magnitude of molybdenum-addition alloy solidification range. The increase of the solidification range to 30-40 deg does not interfere with single crystal growth; however, in case when the alloy solidification range widens to 100-200 deg and over the manufacture of single crystals on the available equipment becomes unpracticable
