Emergency system at the Deutscher Wetterdienst and model validation using ETEX data

  • 1. Deutscher Wetterdienst, Offenbach (Germany)

Description

The emergency system of the German Weather Service (DWD) for the dispersion forecast of hazardous material consists of a trajectory model and dispersion models (Lagrangian particle dispersion model (LPDM), Eulerian transport model (ETM)) based on German global and regional operational weather forecast models. The results can be transmitted via national and international communication systems in standard formats. The models were validated in tracer experiments (ANATEX, ETEX). The description of the emergency dispersion model LPDM and the model validation against ETEX data is presented in more detail. (author)
