Tremendous thrust densities and efficiencies can be achieved with pulsed induction acceleration without problems of erosion and wear. This highly impulsive form of energy transfer presents several unique thermal, electrical, and structural challenges. Research into the basic material and structural limitations of inductive energy transfer was conducted. To corroborate these analyses, an experimental apparatus was constructed and operated over one hundred times including several tests at velocities greater than 700 m/s and efficiencies in excess of 30%
