INFN-CNAF Tier-1 status report

  • 1. CNAF/INFN, Bologna (Italy)

Description

INFN CNAF is the National Center of INFN (National Institute for Nuclear Physics) for research and development in the field of information technologies, applied to high energy physics experiments. In the year 2005, the Italian Tier-1 for the Lhc experiments, located in a 1000 m2 hall in Bologna, has been inaugurated at CNAF. It represents the most relevant computing centre of INFN and one of the most important centres for distributed computing in Italy. During the subsequent years the centre has considerably grown up in terms of computing power and storage space, making an infra structural upgrade necessary, together with several technological studies aimed at identifying suitable software solutions to stand the progressive increment of resources. This paper describes the current status of the centre, focusing on the recent innovations introduced at both infra structural and software layers.
