On the origin of solar s-type radio burst trains

  • 1. AN SSSR, Gor'kij. Inst. Prikladnoj Fiziki

Description

An interpretation of a millisecond structure of meter wavelength solar radio bursts is suggested to be similar to the interpretation of the Iobian's-bursts. The source is supposed to be a weekly anisotrpic plasma with quasi-homogeneous magnetic field where upper-hybrid plasma waves are excited by hot electrons and converted into ordinary and extraordinary waves with refractive index n0,sub(e)<<1 due to scattering by thermal ions. The negative frequency drift is caused by the group delay of electromagnetic waves from the point n0,sub(e)0 till they escape from the source. Quasi-periodic trains of s-bursts arise from the pulsed conversion of plasma waves into ordinary and extraordinary waves
