The TMI-VIP findings and severe accident research

  • 1. Gesellschaft fuer Anlagen- und Reaktorsicherheit (GRS) mbH, Koeln (Germany)

Description

The reactor safety research and probabilistic safety assessment studies have demonstrated an objective evaluation of the accident spectrum for which safety features of nuclear power plants are designed. The OECD-NEA TMI-2 Vessel Investigation Project has highlighted the issue of severe accident governing phenomena. The major findings of the TMI-2 VIP project indicate the importance of modelling enhanced debris cooling during severe accidents. The TMI-2 VIP data may help to the determination of an additional safety margin in severe accident analysis. 5 refs
