Fractional quantum Hall effect ground state
- 1. Comision Nacional de Energia Atomica, San Carlos de Bariloche (Argentina). Centro Atomico Bariloche
Description
An analysis of the fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) ground state (g.s.) in the symmetric gauge is presented. The g.s. is dominated by a multiple-drops parent state made of constant actual-size drops. The excellence of the Laughlin wave function (L.w.f.) to describe this behaviour for one-drop parent states (the situation for less than six particles) is checked but over states correlation effects are found when more electrons are present. Some of the failures of the L.w.f. were corrected but others are hard to erradicate without drastic changes, so a new approximant for the FQHE g.s. is proposed. (Author)
