Description
Enzymatically produced inorganic phosphate was found to be an effective precipitating agent for uranium from solutions in the pH range of 5-9. A genetically engineered (indigenously developed) E. coli bearing phoN (a gene for acid phosphatase) was employed in the enzymatic cleavage of 2-phosphoglycerate to produce this ligand which in turn precipitated uranium. The results were compared with those obtained by direct chemical Na3PO4 addition method. (author)
