the 238U(γ,α) and 238U(n,αn') reactions - have they really been observed

Description
Measurements of the 238U(γ, α) cross section do not confirm previous estimates of this cross section and establish an upper limit lower by a factor of 30. The possibility of a background contribution to the original experiment, through the reaction 238U(n, αn), is investigated and shown to be negligible. (author)
