Functional equations for path-department phase factors in Yang-Mills theories

Description

A gauge-covariant functional derivative for path-dependent quantities is introduced and used to analyze the behaviour of the phase matrix, under variations of the contour. It is concluded that there is still a serious gap in the attempt to derive the string theory from a Yang-Mills theory. (Auth.)
