Fuel rod for nuclear reactor
Description
Purpose: To suppress nodular corrosion at the outer surface of fuel cans and suppress the increase in the radioactivity concentration in reactor water. Constitution: In fuel rods for use in a light water cooled type nuclear reactor, one of the causes for nodular corrosion resulted to the outer surface of fuel cans is the inhomogenity of fuel can matrix material. That is, if the distribution of alloying elements in the zirconium based alloy is not uniform, those regions of higher and lower corrosion resistance are formed in the matrix material to cause local corrosion such as nodular corrosion. In view of the above according to the present invention, the fuel can is made so as to contain amorphous zirconium based alloy at least at the outer surface thereby making the distribution of the alloy ingredient uniform at the outer surface thereof. This can prevent occurrence of nodular corrosion. (Takahashi, M.)
