Triply excited states: electron-electron correlations in lithium

  • 1. Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Aarhus, 8000 Arhus C (Denmark)

Description

Atomic lithium realizes the simplest four-body Coulomb problem, and when all three electrons are excited the system shows pronounced electron-electron correlation effects. This article reviews recent experimental and theoretical activities, aiming at a more detailed understanding of this fundamental system. (topical review)
