Effect of the upper ionosphere on the Farley-Buneman instability

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Zemnogo Magnetizma, Ionosfery i Rasprostraneniya Radiovoln

Description

On the assumption of a double-layer model of the ionosphere the development of the Farley-Buneman instability has been discussed. A dispersion equation has been obtained, the solution of which determines the threshold value of the transverse length of the perturbation wave. Assessments of the vertical scale of attenuation of electric field seeping through from the E-region of the ionosphere at the height of the F layer have been made. The height of the region of field attenuation was found to be 100-150 km
