Tests of countercurrent flow in a 5x5 unheated road bundle

Description
With the objective of examining the countercurrent flow phenomenon, it was built at CDTN an Air-Water Test Facility with a 5x5 unheated rod bundle, one perfurated plate ( 'tie plate') and an plenum region, representing, in scale, the upper part of a PWR (KWU). A series of 179 tests was performed with downward injection through the upper plenum in 4 different elevations in order to investigate the effect of the injection position on the ccountercurrent flow. The phenomenon has shown a different behavior when one compares test results of the injection in the tie plate's immediate neighborhood with the remaning ones. (author)

Com o objetivo de se estudar o fenomeno do escoamento em contracorrente, foi construido no CDTN um dispositivo experimental onde e possivel investiga-lo com agua e ar. A secao de testes e constituida de um feixe de 25 barras simuladoras (5x5), uma placa perfurada e um 'plenum' superior, que representam, em escala, um elemento combustivel de reator PWR, padrao KWU. Foram realizados 179 testes com injecao de agua em quatro diferentes niveis atraves do 'plenum' superior, visando verificar o efeito da posicao da injecao de agua no fenomeno do escoamento em contracorrente. Os resultados experimentais mostraram diferencas no comportamento do escoamento em contracorrente para as injecoes no nivel proximo a placa perfurada, em relacao aos demais niveis de injecao.
