Quasielastic scattering of electrons on nuclei

Description
Excitation spectra of the residual nucleus and angular distributions of the ejected protons are calculated for the (e,e'p) reactions on 12C and 40Ca. Consistent use of a model that takes many-particle effects into account makes it possible to obtain good agreement with the available experimental data. Certain consequences of the model are discussed; these consequences make it possible, in particular, to reconcile the contradictory data on the binding energy of 1s protons in 40Ca. A formula for calculating the d2sigma cross sections with allowance for the width of the hole states is derived and is used to estimate the influence of many-particle effects on the electron spectra in the quasielastic region
