Declaration of the radionuclide C-14 for the final disposal of radioactive wastes
Description
C-14 develops in nuclear power plants in the coolant, in the fuel, in reactor internals and by ternary decay of N-14 and O-17. The radionuclide C-14 in radioactive wastes appears in different chemical species. For all waste packages to be disposed in the final repository Konrad a declaration of the radionuclide C-14 is required. The C-14 activity is checked with respect to the compliance with the C-14 limit from accident analyses, the thermal influence on the host rock and the C-14 guarantee value from the safety analysis for the normal operation of the repository. The authors describe the C-14 declaration for radioactive mixed wastes, ion exchange resins and condenser concentrates, demolition waste, combustion residues and activated metals (reactor internals).
