Transport of radioactive material by road regulations. Consultation document
Description
This document sets out the proposals for a replacement set of regulations governing the transport of radioactive material by road in the Great Britain. Since this revision is being carried out in order to implement a European Directive there is little or no scope for varying the technical requirements, and so these are generally noted for information only in this document. The major changes to the regulations are explained in some detail. This consultation document generally deals with the ''how'' we implement rather than the ''what'' we implement. In 2000 the HSE carried out a consultation exercise (Proposals for the Radiation (Emergency Preparedness and Public Information) Regulations implementing Council Directive 96/29/Euratom, Title IX, Section I) relating to the implementation of Title IX of the Euratom Basic Safety Standards. As a result of that consultation exercise it was decided that it was more appropriate to clarify for the road transport aspects of this part of the directive when revising this set of regulations (carriage of radioactive material by road). These proposals are set out in this document The document also includes a description of the overall international process that has resulted in the need for this change, and includes details of how to comment on this part of the process
