Update on technology of x-ray generators
Creators
Description
Components in solid-state power electronics and microelectronics and new concepts in engineering techniques could contribute in a highly beneficial way to the ever more stringent requirements in diagnostic radiology regarding tolerances and reproducibility of imaging parameters. This course is divided into three sections: Radiation physics and technique factors: This section considers how voltage, amperage, and time contribute to the generation of an x-ray image, and specifically how these parameters are related to contrast, resolution, unsharpness of organ movement, and patient exposure. Generator circuitries and analysis of their functions: This section explores the power circuitries needed to generate different kilovoltage wave shapes, the filament and exposure time circuitries. Modes of operation: This section relates the information of the two previous sections to fluoroscopic techniques, both indirect (100-mm, 35-mm cine and digital subtraction angiography) and direct imaging. Benefits and trade-offs, including contributions to cost savings, will be presented in a systematic and efficient manner. The presentation is accompanied by a handout that emphasizes the great relevance to the radiology community
