Description

The LEHIPA project in BARC is a 20 MeV, 30 mA linac comprising of a 3 MeV RFQ and a 3-20 MeV DTL. This thesis is based on the results of the design of the 20 MeV Alvarez DTL and measurements on a DTL prototype. A detailed electromagnetic design of the DTL has been optimized with an aim to maximize the effective shunt impedance of the cavity while keeping enough space for quadrupoles inside the drift tubes. The peak surface electric field is kept below 0.9 Kilpatrick. The tunability of the tuners and postcouplers has been studied, based on which the dimensions and the numbers of tuners and postcouplers have been determined
