The term γp2 in the anomalous-energy-dispersion relation is shown to cause a decreasing factor of the form [1-(TT/sup */)2] in the attenuation coefficient of first sound in liquid 4He below T/sub λ/. An explicit formula for the characteristic temperature T/sup */ is given for bulk He
