On the status and outlook of fast reactor development, fuel cycle, and comparison with thermal reactor

This paper deals with the status of development and practical operation of sodium-cooled fast power reactors with the consideration given to their potential role in power engineering, technical maturity, operational experience, safety, fuel cycle conditions, and up-to-date economical indicators and tendencies, prospects of plutonium breeding rate enhancement. The reasons of the necessity and the ways of further development of this direction in nuclear power have been brought forward
